UNIVERSITY PARTNERSHIPS
Consider partnering with a local university with a credential program for teachers to teach in the target language (in California, it is called a “Bilingual Authorization”) to establish a mutually beneficial relationship to both support the development of preservice dual language immersion (DLI) teachers and create a pipeline for new teachers for the district’s DLI program.
Some of the potential benefits may include:
- Professional development
- For teachers by faculty members on DLI topics
- For university faculty members on current educational issues/topics
- DLI program evaluation support from university faculty
- Research opportunities in DLI sites and classrooms
- Possible source of new DLI teachers
